Description:

Laboratory for Advanced Computing (UC-LCA) aims to provide advanced computing resources for research in physics, chemistry, applied mathematics, engineering and biological sciences to research groups and companies.  This laboratory is specialized in advanced computing, configuration, installation and management of advanced computer systems, implementation of software application in a computer cluster environment; application user support and parallel software development (with researchers from the Center for Computational Physics) for using in a distributed computing environment. It has experience in providing computer resources allocation through open calls for scientific projects and organizes advanced computer workshops. In particular there is experience in deploying and using parallel computer codes used in simulations of biological molecules like NAMD, GROMACS and AMBER. Located in the Physics Department of University of Coimbra, the laboratory has supported scientists from 9 Portuguese Universities and 2 research laboratories. It is a member of the European Research Infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe).
